Watch the CrossFit Games 2018 live! Below is an article about how the competition works with links to all individual and team events on Day One of the Games, and links to all nine 2018 CrossFit Regional Events.
The CrossFit Games is the final of three events in the CrossFit Games season, and the most elite competition in the sport of CrossFit. Here’s a breakdown of how the event comes together.
CrossFit Open
The competition starts with the CrossFit Open. The Open is an event which anyone in the world can participate in. The cost is $20 per participant. Each participant makes a video recording of them completing each workout and submits their scores each week. There is a single workout each week and participants get to try the workout as many times as they want in the week long period to get the best score possible.
It’s a cool event because of its democracy. Each participant enters their results into a public database on the CrossFit website. Therefore each participant can see how they stack up against all other participants in the world.
By the end of the event, the top athletes rise to the top of the leaderboard. And the people who are at the top get invited to participate in the second stage of the CrossFit Games series, the CrossFit Regionals.
CrossFit Regional
The CrossFit Regionals is the second most elite competition in CrossFit. In 2018 it occurred from May 18th to June 3rd. You can find all the Regionals breakdowns here:
- East Regional
- Europe Regional
- South Regional
- Central Regional
- West Regional
- Latin America Regional
- Atlantic Regional
- Meridian Regional
- Pacific Regional
Each Regional competition is a separate event and the goal for the athletes is to rank high enough to be invited to the CrossFit Games.
CrossFit Games
The CrossFit Games is to the sport of CrossFit what the Superbowl is to the sport of football. This is the final event in the CrossFit Games series and after 4 days of grueling competition one individual man and woman, and one team will be crowned the 2018 Fittest on Earth.
After Day 1 we hypothesize that Matt Fraser will win the men’s individual competition and it’ll be Tia-Clair Toomey or Laura Horvaht who will win the woman’s individual. And one of the two CrossFit Mayhem teams will take the top spot on the podium.
