What happened at the Latin America Regional?
The Latin America Regional did not start out to plan. But the CrossFit community rallied and worked together to make this Regional happen.
Because of a truck strike in Brazil the CrossFit community had to come together to source and supply all the equipment needed for the Regionals to go on. Talk about a test of what can be achieved with a strong and dedicated CrossFit community.
Only one woman, one man and one team from the Latin America Regional were to head to the 2018 CrossFit Games. It was an exciting weekend to see who would be those lucky Top 1 qualifiers.
Luis Perez and Simona Quintana finished strong taking first place in Event 1.
Brenda Castro is the three time Fittest Woman in Mexico and the favorite coming in to Regionals, with a less than ideal start to the weekend, she rebounded nicely. The finish to remember is when Castro trips over the box and crawls to an Event 5 take down, winning by less than 3 seconds. Five years in the making, Castro is the first Mexican woman to go to the CrossFit Games as an individual.
Coming last in the CrossFit Open, Pablo Chalfun “Pablo knows” almost didn’t make it to the 2018 Regionals. He had to do something special. He put in a solid effort over the weekend, but it was the race to the finish line against Luis Oscar Mora in Event 4 which won him the event by less than one second, and the qualifying spot to the 2018 CrossFit Games.
