Orange Coast CrossFit was established in 2009, and they are the home of Brutal Workouts! They pride themselves on having the best community in the business, and housing all walks of life – the average Joe who just wants to get in shape, the everyday soccer mom, college athletes, and top level athletes.
When you walk into Orange Coast CrossFit aka Brutal Republic, you can’t help but feel that everyone there means serious business, and they’re here to werk werk werk. Some people might even find it intimidating when walking in for the first time, but don’t be scared off by all the muscles and intensity, give it a chance, and in no time at all you too will be ready to rock into the box and switch on that BEAST MODE.
We we’re in Huntington Beach for a short period of time so we wanted to check out a local box. We got a great deal on Groupon 10 x classes = $25. Getting a 10-20 class pass is great for anyone wanting to check out a box before locking yourself in and signing up for any full membership. This 10 class pass is a great way to try out the box, and it gives you enough time to get a good feel of what the box offers in terms of classes/coaches and community. And bonus, OCCF often have great Groupon deals available. They also offer drop in classes for $20, 10 CrossFit classes are $170, 20 CrossFit classes are $280 or ask them about there monthly unlimited classes.
Cross/Train classes consist of a new format which is a two tier program, Power vs Shred. “Power” is geared towards heavier weight and lower rep schemes combined with more technical/advanced movements, and is designed to improve overall strength and skill. “Shred” is geared towards lighter weights and a higher rep scheme. Shred is mixed with a medley of creative and challenging body weight movements designed to keep you lean and improve aerobic capacity.
X-Diesel is an aerobic/conditioning class, with less weightlifting and more cardio. This class will kick your ass. So be prepared to get your ass handed to you every single X-Diesel class.
They also offer weightlifting and competitor program classes.
Saturday workouts are made up of partner WODs. And Sunday workouts (BLOODY SUNDAYS) are typically super long, and super challenging workouts. Note: This is the complete opposite of a rest day! 🙂
OCCF is in an industrial area, so the box is a super spacious warehouse. It has high ceilings, lots of light, and an awesome open air feel to it. They have a few small wall fans, and two large industrial fans which work a treat. HOT TIP: If you need a little extra air then set up directly in front of one of the big fans, or in front of the door. Regardless, just be prepared to get down and dirty, and sweat like a beast.
The box is set up well, and has all the equipment you need to crush any WOD, or PR. They also have a large outdoor area with plenty of room for rowers, running, tire flips, farmers carry and prowlers. They have a unisex bathroom and large locker/change room. They also have a water dispenser with filtered water so you can fill up your bottle of water for free. Their’s plenty of free parking to the side or front of the box.
Coaches Miguel and Marie are both highly experienced and super professional. They’re all about teaching great technique and you can tell they are both really passionate about CrossFit, and the OCCF community. They also give you the support and motivation that you need to get through every WOD. Having a great coach is the most important thing you want to look for when looking for a great box to join, so we can’t rave enough about these two coaches. They are exactly who you want to be WODing with.
We really enjoyed our time here. The programming was awesome, and we definitely left feeling fitter and stronger than when we arrived. So if you want to get motivated and fit fast, then this is the box for you! The OCCF community will push you to be the best version of yourself, and to hit your fitness and PR goals quick smart!
