Laura Horvath is a Hungarian athlete. She came onto our radar because she is LEADING the CrossFit open right now. Here is what the leaderboard looks like at the time of writing this:

The CrossFit Open is an intense competition which everyone on earth can enter the competition. So Laura Horvath is the best in the world at pairing rowing, dumbbells, clean and jerks. She can execute this workout faster than some SUPERSTAR athletes like Katrin Davidsdottir and Samantha Briggs. It’s quite an accomplishment.
Laura Horvath’s Strategies for 18.1
Here is what we noticed about how Laura Horvath set up her equipment to achieve the top score, thus far, in the first workout of the CrossFit Open. Her Instagram video says a lot about how she did it.
Transition Time
An important thing to note is how she set up her dumbbell, her pull-up bar, and the rowing machine. Having her equipment so close in proximity helped her to cut down on transition time. Between the toes to bar (TTB) to the dumbbell, she hardly had to take two steps. From the dumbbell to the rowing machine she also was a step away.
Loose Rowing Straps
There was talk during the announcement that the athletes may not have utilized the foot straps on the rowing machine. Laura Horvath was clearly using the straps.
It does not appear that she has them on very tightly because she was able to slip them off without touching them.
One final thing to note is how she finished up her rowing. She probably hadn’t completed the row before she slipped her feet from the straps, but pulled on the rowing machine in a quick and short way. This allowed her to cut transition time even further.
Who is Laura Horvath?
It appears that she is sponsored by Progenex. I’m guessing that their team caught up with Laura and filmed a day in the life. It’s a pretty cool video and gives us an idea of what makes Laura such a machine. You can watch the video here:
Great work Laura! We’re looking forward to watching you for the rest of the 2018 CrossFit Open.
